Trauma & PTSD

Trauma refers to an overwhelming and distressing event or experience that exceed an individual’s ability to cope with it. It leaves a lasting effect on the person’s emotional and psychological state. Traumatic events can range from natural disasters and accidents to physical or sexual abuse, or witnessing violence. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is characterized by intrusive and distressing memories or flashbacks, intense anxiety or fear, avoidance of triggers related to the trauma, and hyperarousal symptoms like anxiety, anger, sadness, guilt, sleep disturbances and irritability. It is important to receive support and treatment in order to process the traumatic event and overcome it.
